Southern Africa In December of 2007 we have two Alexander Voyages to South Africa. Raef, who was born in South Africa, will accompany you throughout the voyage and will share his experience of growing up gay and Caucasian in Apartheid era South Africa. In recent years South Africa has transitioned from it’s apartheid beginnings to the free nation that it is today. The new South Africans are known as the rainbow nation. With a constitution that guarantees each citizen full rights and bars discrimination based on race, sex or sexual orientation, it was natural for the country to become popular with gay tourists from around the world. The spectacularly beautiful city of Cape Town has become the gay capital of Africa and is consistently listed as one of the top destinations for gay and lesbian tourists from around the world, In 2006 South Africa’s constitution was tested in the courts and it became the first African nation to recognize same sex partnerships and grant full marriage rights to same sex couples. East meets West, North meets South. South African cuisine is some of the most interesting in the world. |
